Editor’s note: Merry Christmas, East of the Red!
This week’s report is centered on community health and vigilance as we enter the heart of the holiday season. Manitoba Health has issued critical measles exposure warnings across our region, specifically naming Mitchell Elementary School, the Winkler Medical Clinic, and the Access Event Centre in Morden. We urge all readers to review the exposure dates and monitor for symptoms to ensure that our holiday gatherings remain safe for everyone, especially our most vulnerable.
Public health concerns extend to our local medical facilities, as Doctors Manitoba has highlighted the potential for "lean" holiday healthcare services. Residents in the Boreal Boundary should be aware of potential staffing gaps at the Pinawa Hospital and are encouraged to check the IERHA status updates before traveling for non-emergency care.
In a positive move toward community recovery, the RM of Piney has announced that the Wildfire Recovery Benefit is now accessible. This provincial funding is a vital resource for residents of Piney, Woodridge, and Marchand who were displaced by the wildfires earlier this year; please be sure to check the application deadlines to ensure you receive this support.
To round out our final update of the year, we are highlighting a major milestone for the Boreal region: the Pinawa Foundation has officially ranked second in the province for its recent Giving Challenge, raising over $108,000 for local community projects. It is a testament to the incredible generosity of our residents and a perfect note of hope to carry into the New Year.
Please take a moment to review the upcoming Municipal Deadlines and our Community Events Calendar below to stay ahead of the year-end rush. Wishing you and yours a peaceful and healthy Christmas.
